Living SOOOO close to the beach! :)

Living in Ventura – you are literally minutes from the beach!!! Up north where I used to live – you could go to the beach but it took a few hours and then it was usually too cold to go in. But here in Ventura – it doesn’t get too hot, but it feels hot now, but the water is so refreshing!! **I don’t think my mama would agree with this statement – she likes the water to be like bath water… but that’s another story.)

You live so close, but you have to MAKE a decision to go. My friend, C, and her kiddos meet me most Monday afternoons, which has been AMAZING!!! I get to hang out with my friend and her kiddos and be at the beach!! C hasn’t been in the water in years – she is usually stationed by all the towels and food. But she wants to learn how to surf and have more opportunities to have alone with her husband. So she’s been going out into the ocean to get over what now is a fear because it’s been so long. That has been awesome to witness and be apart of her journey.

So if you know me and come visit – you can bet there will be a couple trips to the beach! πŸ™‚

September is almost gone…

I can’t believe that the month of September is almost over and gone.

TIME FLIES!!!! – whether you’re having fun or not.

I’ve been down in Ventura for almost 2 months! Time flies but I also have a bad tendency to think too far ahead in the future. So I’ve been here for 2 months but I’m already starting to think about my life in a year when my internship is over. Will I be in Ventura still, back home, or somewhere completely different. But in thinking like, I forget about the here and now. The Present!

Please pray that I would be more present with my life here and the people in it. To be in conversations, to be in relationships – in the present. To not think about the future as something that already happened.Β  Also pray for a family down here – I don’t know but personally, but my heart grieves for them, they lost their 6 year old son over the weekend!!

“Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth.” Proverbs 27:1

“How do you know what will happen tomorrow? For your life is like the morning fog – it’s here a little while, then it’s gone.” James 4:14

Bubbles

I am surrounded a lot of kiddos in my daily life down here in Ventura. Definitely not a bad thing, I am finding all these childhood things again, i.e – hula hopping, jump roping, playing with Legos, and most of all BUBBLES.

There is something about bubbles that I just find magical and awesome. Whether you like to blow out the bubbles, eat the bubbles, pop the bubbles, or a little bit of all of those things. Bubbles bring out the kiddo in me. I like to collect them on my wand and see how big I can make the bubbles. I make them dance back and forth, which is endless fun for the kiddos around me.

A blowing bubbles for me and L trying to eat them. They smell and taste like grapes.

I love that I have rediscovered all these cool things.

My worlds are going to be meeting…

I’ve been down here in Ventura for almost 2 months. I’m meeting more people in my community and through Restore Ventura. But I have a family in Santa Paula that I am super close to and have known for about 8 years now. The parents were my old college pastors and I used to babysit their kiddos all the time.

They have been down here for about 5 years but I have been down to visit at least once or twice a year. They were a BIG plus in moving down here and only being 20 minutes away.

But tonight, we are having a potluck with all the people I have in my life down here – old and new! I can’t wait for everyone to meet and FINALLY know each other.

I will keep you updated on the evening in the days to come!

Blessings and Love,

Jodi

Awesome Advice from a 5-year old! :)

I live in Ventura and I’m interning for a non-profit called Restore Ventura, I say that to also say that I live with a host family while I’m here. They are amazing people with awesome kiddos.

We were having dinner tonight and the 5-year old had a friend over, they were talking but I caught the end of a conversation, “You need to meet the man before you can get married…” That brought the adults into the conversation, we asked the 5-year old how I can find a man to marry. This is her answer…

“You go somewhere. You see what men are there. You pick the one you like. You ask him if he would like to marry you.”

Done.

I asked the kids if they wanted to help me find a man, they were ready to go right after dinner! πŸ™‚ I shall keep you updated on what the man says.

Visiting the Queen Mary last weekend. (13th of Sept. ’14)

So last weekend my mom and her girlfriends were in Long Beach,Β  CA for a short girls trip! Staying on the Queen Mary, an old ship that used to sail from England to the States. Now it’s this awesome, cool hotel! πŸ™‚ You can have your wedding there – the day I was on the ship – there were 6 weddings!!! There is this awesome Princess Diana exhibit (my mom is a BIG Princess Di fan!)

I couldn't get a really good picture - but there she is! Queen Mary!

I went to dinner with my mom, her friends, also my sister and her 2 girls. Then we went to the ship and walked around for a few hours. I was really proud of myself because I didn’t get winded as I walked up and down the stairs and through every floor. (I’m trying to get healthier – walking and biking more. Also trying to take up the Hula Hoop after 20 years of being inactive.Β  But that’s for another time.)

But I highly recommend the Queen Mary if you are interested in history and staying on a gorgeous ship!! Now for more pictures…

More about me…How I got into Korean culture and ALL things Korean

CN BLUE concert I went to in January.
CN BLUE concert I went to in January.

First, let me just say, I L-O-V-E LOVE anything Korean! πŸ™‚

I got into Korean dramas first, my friend, M, got into them in college. I teased her for a good year before I decided to check things out.Β  I watched my first drama 5 years ago!!! It was a little show called You’re Beautiful, it’s about a soon-to-be nun dressing up like her twin brother and being in a K-pop idol group.

What I liked about the drama and the dramas to come – they were ‘clean’ – no cussing, no excessive kissing or bedroom action… The dramas would be rated G – because even if the content to more adult in theme, they try to keep it within reason, if you know what I mean. Not to say there aren’t shows and movies that are Korean that show and do more – I just choose not to watch those.

But back to my point – watching that first drama since there was a lot of music in the show, it naturally got my interested in the music. My first band that I fell in love with was CN BLUE – one of the actors from You’re Beautiful, is the leader and vocalist for the band!! From there – just researching the internet and asking my friend, M, for more bands, idol groups, and singers.

Then from there I found Big Bang (which is my all time favorite K-pop band) and SO MANY more.

From being super into the dramas and then the music, I started looking more into the culture and their traditions. I love reading about history, in general, so it was cool to learn about a different culture. I have slowly started getting into the language and learning to write the characters.

I have met some different people in the last 5 years, that I know I wouldn’t have come in contact with if it wasn’t for K-pop and K-dramas!

If you are even a little bit interested – don’t be afraid to check some of the music and shows out. Most all the K-pop artists have YouTube channels and a LOT of the dramas are now on Netflix and Hulu! Dramas I would suggest starting with You’re Beautiful, Secret Garden, Boys Over Flowers, or Coffee Prince.

That it for now, hope you have a blessed day!!!

Introducing my new website

Thanks for stopping by and welcome to my new blog! This is just an introductory post so I’ll keep it short and sweet.

I decided to start a blog because I moved away from my hometown and I wanted to keep my family and friends up-to-date!

Over the next few months I plan to be writing and sharing posts about my life down here in Ventura, CA! πŸ™‚

That’s it for now! If you’d like to be kept updated with my posts β€œLike” this post or subscribe to my blog.

Hello world!

Just a short entry, if for some reason a person I don’t know checks out my blog!

My name is Jodi, I’m 32 years old and I’m right in the middle of going on an advent-CHA with God!! πŸ™‚ I lived in central California – mainly Galt, a small farm town, for most of my life. I was working 2 jobs but not really doing anything but working and sleeping. I wanted to do something more, but I didn’t know what.

I was having lunch with a friend and she was telling me about this non-profit called Restore, they had one in Stockton, and there was a newer one in Ventura, CA! I had the director’s number for 2 weeks before I did anything. With another friend by my side, I called him one day after work. He was busy getting ready to take a much of youth to feed the homeless. I e-mailed him my bio, my past ministry work, and my picture. I made a quick trip down to Ventura on Memorial weekend to meet him and see the Ave, the part of town where I would be. I made another quick down there to meet my potential host family. Then a month and a half after that – I was driving down here with my mom to start my year long internship with Restore Ventura!!!

Good-bye!
Me saying, ‘Good-bye.’ to my life in Northern California.
